ссудно-сберегательная ассоциация (США): разновидность сберегательных учреждений кооперативного или акционерного типа, принадлежащих пайщикам, вкладчикам ("взаимная" разновидность) или акционерам; такие ассоциации традиционно аккумулируют сбережения населения и финансируют жилищное строительство (по закону такие кредиты должны составлять 70% всех кредитов), а в настоящее время по своим функциям сближаются с банками, получают акционерную форму; впервые возникли в XIX в.; могут быть зарегистрированы на штатном или федеральном уровне (в последнем случае регулируются Федеральным советом банков жилищного кредита); в конце 1980-х гг. многие ссудно-сберегательные ассоциации находились на грани банкротства, и правительству пришлось провести операцию по их спасению и реформе системы регулирования; в частности, был создан Страховой фонд сберегательных ассоциаций (Savings Association Insurance Fund);
